At Lyndhurst, we have a rich and diverse culture of languages within our school community. To enhance this, we teach Spanish to our children with some introductions to the language in KS1 but with carefully planned lessons and allocated time in Key Stage 2.
Teaching an additional Modern Foreign Language (MFL) to children develops their language skills and begins to deepen their wider cultural understanding. Exposure to other languages, in this case Spanish, improves their empathy whilst being introduced to customs and values belonging to a society other than their own.
Our programme of work has been developed using Language Angels, which is written for teachers by teachers. It follows the National Curriculum requirements whilst at the same time using games, songs and interactive materials to support learning and pronunciation .
