Phonics and Reading

We love reading at Lyndhurst Primary School and we believe that teaching a child to read is vital. We are passionate about ensuring that all children become confident and enthusiastic readers and writers. We believe that phonics provides the foundations of learning and makes the development into fluent reading and writing easier. Phonics is the process that we use to help children to break down words into sounds, as well as building letter and word recognition. This can then enable the children to use unknown and unfamiliar words in the future.

In Early Years and Key Stage1, we use Read Write Inc for Phonics and reading alongside Reading Rocketeers. When ready, children in Year 2 progress onto the Reading Explorers programme.
